Anxiety is a difficult disorder for thousands of people across the country to deal with. This disorder can be downright debilitating if not treated properly and effectively by a doctor. One of the most common ways to treat anxiety is through the use of prescription medications. Another way to treat anxiety is to reduce the amount of stress in one’s life; which is thought to be a major cause of the disorder. Aside from reducing stress and taking prescription medication there are all natural treatments available to help patients deal with anxiety disorders they might be suffering from.
First, let’s outline whether or not a person has an anxiety disorder. The following questions should be examined when figuring out if you suffer from anxiety:

  • Are you constantly tense, worried, or on edge?
  • Does your anxiety interfere with your work, school, or family responsibilities?
  • Are you plagued by fears that you know are irrational, but can’t shake?
  • Do you believe that something bad will happen if certain things aren’t done a certain way?
  • Do you avoid everyday situations or activities because they make you anxious?
  • Do you experience sudden, unexpected attacks of heart-pounding panic?
  • Do you feel like danger and catastrophe are around every corner?

The most common symptoms of anxiety include feelings of apprehension or dread, trouble concentrating, feeling tense or jumpy, anticipating the worst in a situation, irritability, restlessness, watching for signs of imminent danger, feeling as if your mind has gone blank, a pounding heart, sweating, upset stomach, dizziness, frequent urination, diarrhea, shortness of breath, tremors or twitches, muscle tension, headaches, fatigue and insomnia.

One of the most common all natural treatments for anxiety is to reduce the amount of stress the patient deals with during a day or throughout a week. If stress can be reduced then the anxiety will begin to dissipate. Stress can be caused by a job, school, paying bills, running a household, owning a business, caring for a sick child or sick parent, worrying about the future and many other obstacles that people deal with on a daily basis. A doctor or therapist will be able to educate their patients on the best ways to reduce stress in their life.

Another all natural treatment for anxiety is to obtain behavioral therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy focuses on the patient’s thinking patterns in addition to their actions. When a patient attends this form of therapy the doctor will focus on the negative thinking patterns in their life and attempt to challenge those thoughts with positive ones in hopes of reducing anxiety. Exposure therapy is when an anxiety patient confronts their fears in a controlled environment. Anxiety will gradually diminish when the patient faces their fears in a controlled environment and does not suffer any harm.

Exercise, relaxation techniques, biofeedback and hypnosis are some of the other common all natural treatments for anxiety instead of taking medications.
