Women are often the ones who are concerned about aging and the concomitant effects it has on their skin. Having wrinkles is one of these concerns aging women have. Fortunately for them, there are a lot of developments and technologies which have been discovered by skin experts which can solve the problem of wrinkles. One of the most popular of these solutions to wrinkles is botox.

Cosmetic TreatmentThe appeal of the purified botulinum toxin lies in the fact that this is a non-surgical solution to removing facial lines and wrinkles. More specifically, this treatment targets key areas which usually develop wrinkles such as the forehead and the eyes. It helps remove or lessen crow’s feet and frown lines by weakening the muscles in the forehead and around the eyes, thus reducing the lines of facial expression. This is accomplished through the injection of the purified botulinum toxin into the muscles.

Another feature of this treatment which makes it a popular choice among women is its simple and uncomplicated process. Since it is non-surgical and it only involves the injection of the toxin into the muscles, the treated areas only take around five to ten days to soften. Moreover, for a hassle-free treatment, it offers a relatively long effect, usually ranging from four to six months. In addition, according to a Philippine plastic surgeon, as this procedure does not have any known long term side effects, it can be repeated after about six months. The optimum effect can even be achieved if the treatment is accompanied by other skin treatments such as peels and the daily application of alpha hydroxyacid and tretinoin cream, which if taken together can reduce years off the face of a woman.

There are, however, several short term side effects which a person should know before deciding to undergo a botox treatment. For example, there is a risk of developing a small bruise or hematoma.Other side effects are more undesirable, such as the drooping of an eyebrow or eyelid and double vision. “Nevertheless, these side effects are rare and these are usually reversible or will only last for a couple of months,” Dr. Eddie Magallona, a plastic surgeon in the Philippines, assures.

Women must, however, first determine if she is fit for receiving botox injections before getting them. There are certain conditions which will render her unfit to receive the treatment such as pregnancy, or being a breast feeding mother. In addition, there are certain ailments or medical conditions which are incompatible with the treatment such as a neuromuscular disease, myasthenia gravis and allergies to human albumin and the botulinum toxin itself.

Lastly, for those who received injections, they must follow the instructions given by their doctors such as the prohibition against drinking alcohol and the massaging of muscles around the treated areas so as to prevent complications.
